New Futures Organisation

One of the aims of New Futures is to provide children in the Takeo area - both those from the Children's home and others, with opportunities for education and skills development. Takeo is a very rural area and both incomes and job opportunities are often quite limited. The vocational training centre aims to equip children and young people with some of the skills they will need to find employment or set up their own business in a variety of different areas of work.

Thanks to the generosity of our friends at Camkids, we recently completed construction of a building adjacent to the Children's home which houses purpose-built workshops for vocational and skills training. The building was financed, designed and constructed by volunteers and donors, using locally-sourced and sustainable materials. It provides a dedicated space for the children to learn and develop vital skills which will help them in the future.

Classroom and Library

A large classroom area, fully equipped with audio and video equipment, is used for learning English, Maths and Khmer; as well as being a multi-use room for meetings, workshops and other activities. The library contains many books, games and other materials which have been both donated by supporters and funded by donations

Sewing and music room

The centre is equipped with a sewing and dressmaking workshop, where the children can learn the skills needed to design, make and repair clothes and other fabric products. Volunteers handy on the sewing machine run lessons for the children such as a recent series of classes to teach the children how to make their own backpacks. We are always looking for more fabric and new sewing activities for the children.

Beauty room

A beauty salon has been set up, where NFO staff and volunteers can teach the girls hairdressing, makeup, skincare and beauty therapy treatments and techniques. It is fully equipped with high quality hair and beauty materials such as GHD hair straighteners and curlers as well as professional use make up thanks to donations by volunteers in the beauty industry.

Workshop

Thanks to donations of equipment and funding by our supporters, a workshop area has been equipped with a variety of tools and light machinery, allowing our staff to teach carpentry, woodwork, metalwork, electrical, plumbing, building and DIY skills, as well as car, motorcycle and bicycle maintenance and other light engineering techniques.
