NFO has several projects, all of which aim to improve the quality of life for young people and the community in and around Takeo. Click the links below to find out more about what we do!
New Futures is running a series of community schools in remote villages in Takeo Province for children who otherwise would not have an opportunity to attend a school on a regular basis.
We also run free English classes for the local police taught by our dedicated volunteers. These classes are run daily and are open to other members of the community as well. The classes with the monks were the result of a great idea by a volunteer in 2010 and the police approached NFO to run the classes with them. This goes to show the positive relationships that NFO has with the community.
There are currently up to children living at the Children's home aged between six and twenty years old. They are a combination of parental orphans, those whose parents have died, economic orphans, whose families cannot afford to support them, and abused children. Full - time staff provide round-the-clock care and security for the kids, and the Children's home provides for their accommodation, food and basic needs, as well as ensuring they have an education and are fit and healthy. All the children attend local schools as well as having additional English lessons and educational support at the Children's home and vocational training facilities.
Vocational Training Facilities
The New Futures Vocational Training facilities are designed to be able to teach vocational skills children from the Children's home. This training is often provided by staff at the Children's home as well as by our volunteers and is largely based on the children’s individual interests.
This project involves creating a small-scale farm in the grounds of the Children's home. We aim to produce food for the children to eat, as well as generating income by selling any surplus. The farm is also intended to provide opportunities for the children to learn about farming techniques, animal care and agriculture
Self-Sustaining Social Enterprises
Our plan is to become completely self sustaining by developing a range of small social enterprises to support the Children's home cost. One first step in this direction was our Volunteer Centre: what our volunteers pay for accommodation and food goes toward the cost of running the Children's home. We are also looking at new ideas to expand our social enterprises in the future
