New Futures Organisation

To provide vulnerable children and orphans of rural Cambodia with education, housing, food, skills, training and general support to enable them to have a new future and opportunities to achieve their dreams. New Futures Organisation strongly believes that education is a human right and should be afforded to all, regardless of economic status or location. It therefore aims to provide education to children who would otherwise not have the chance to go to school.

Objectives

The organisation's objectives are :

To provide support to orphans and poverty level children in the province of Takeo, Cambodia. This support will be in the form of a children’s home and a series of and village schools which will provide housing, food, education, medical care, clothing, vocational training, help with further education and assistance with seeking employment.

To establish a series of free schools in villages in order to support rural children in maintaining a reasonable level of education.

To establish a vocational training centre to enable young people to train in skills that will assist them to obtain employment. A part of this training will be focused on gaining employment overseas as well as in Cambodia

To endeavour to assist any other NGOs in the local area and those working to empower Cambodians.

To establish an international fundraising system to finance all of its work, to ensure there is no pressure on the finances of the Cambodian Social Affairs or the Cambodian Government budgets.

In all, New Futures Organisation wishes to become an organisation that is recognised as being a valuable asset to the local community and Cambodia.

Background

The New Futures Organisation is an organisation with many different projects of which the New Futures children’s home was the starting point of all of these.   Late in 2007, a small children's home in Takeo town was on the verge of closure with almost 50 children facing life on the streets due to the theft of funds by the children's homes previous management. Neville O’Grady, a volunteer from the UK with a background in NGO management, was volunteering at the children's home at this time and in 2008 took measures to ensure the prevention of the children's home closure.

The orphanage was re-named the New Futures Children’s home and has been registered as a charity in the United Kingdom and Cambodia and as an International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO).

From a starting base of just $100 in the bank account and over a year's rent payments outstanding on the property the children called home, NFO has been transformed into a vibrant, successful organisation which is well-known and respected as an important part of the local community, and has a growing reputation at the national and international level.

As well as developing facilities such as a farm, library, art, music and sewing room, workshop and two classrooms for the young people at the children’s home and in Takeo town. NFO has expanded its operations to set up a chain of schools and education projects in rural areas of Takeo province. These rural schools are now providing free education to many children who were previously unable to attend school.
